Perama Project

The oxidized gold deposit at Perama consists a typical deposit of low sulfidation which is located in sedimentary rocks of Eocene to Oligocene age. It is located in Northeastern Greece, on the border of the Evros and Rodopi prefectures.

Perama Hill Project

The mineralization of gold has been supplied through a tectonically controlled system of fractures in andesites, to the highly porous arenaceous caprocks.

Eighty percent of the mineralization is located in sandstones and the rest is connected with andesite breccias and conglomerates.

The project is located in a non-residential area, of a low agricultural and forestry production value in the prefecture of Evros in Thrace. It lies at approximately: 5km from the sea, 28km from the port of Alexandroupoli, 15 km from Makri, 7 km from Mesti and 0.5km from the village of Perama.

Since compliance with environmental legislation constitutes a top priority for the Company:

The design incorporates state-of-the-art methods such as SART, which concerns the use and management of cyanide—an essential element for ore processing—representing a Best Available Technique (BAT). In the same context, it is noted that Eldorado Gold has signed and implements, at its active mines in Greece (Halkidiki) and Turkey, the International Cyanide Management Code, a strict protocol for cyanide management in active mines around the world.

The operation of the Mine’s fleet will rely significantly on electrification, thereby drastically reducing the carbon footprint in alignment with the European Union’s Green Deal.

An Environmental Monitoring Observatory will be established across the entire scope of the mining site, equipped with numerous sensors for the collection of environmental data, which will be transmitted to a publicly accessible online database.

Finally, it is worth noting that the Perama project also has a processing dimension, as within the same facilities, gold will be converted into doré—ready-to-market metal—which will be dispatched directly from Perama. (It should be underlined that the transport of gold in bullion form is considerably safer than the transport of concentrate for processing elsewhere.)
